Chapter 2: User Profile
This chapter describes how to customize your profile, add
friends, and hold online conversations with other users. Once again, this is a basic tutorial on the
use of the site, not a comprehensive manual.

When a user is signed in, he or she may access their user
profile by clicking their username in the upper-right hand corner of the
window. When the username is clicked,
the following page will appear:

From this page you can choose to upload an avatar (personal
image), add announcements, post comments, or update your bio. Because this site is intended to share
information between all agencies, individuals, and jurisdictions, it is preferred
that users add an avatar and bio information.
Both may be done by clicking the “Edit your profile to enter your bio”
link or by clicking “Edit” in the upper-right hand corner of the page.
Also in the upper right-hand corner you will find a link to
Conversations and to Friends, both of which are explained below.

When viewing the profiles of different users, you may choose
to add them as a friend by clicking the “Add to friends” link under their
avatar. When you click the “Friends”
link in the upper right-hand corner, the above page is shown. New users will have three friends by default,
each of them are web administrators for this site and Homeland Security
Coordinators at the COG. Additional
friends will appear as they are added.
Next to each friend’s name, you can choose to view their profile by
clicking their name, start a conversation with them, or remove them from your
friends list. Above your friends list there
are links that allow you to review and approve requests from other users to be
your friend as well as a link to see who you have requested to be your friend
that has not approved you at the time.

By clicking the conversations link in the upper-right hand
corner, you can view all of the conversations in which you are involved. Conversations are site-based messages from
other users. When a user signs up for an
account, a message is generated from the site administrators by default. To determine whether you have new messages,
look for a number next to conversations.
It will be in bold text and state how many new messages that you have. To view a message, click the subject of the message.

When viewing a message, you can choose to follow any link in
the message or reply to the conversation.
To reply to the conversation, enter your message in the “Reply to this
Conversation” box and click the “Reply” button
